<rss:description>Many of you are familiar with the amazing green Chevy Aveo that has been touring the country all year on the infamous GM Tuner Tour. Jason Whitfield of Whitfield Racing – www.whitfieldracing.com - built this car and did an amazing job on it. Many people across the nation that have seen the car have fallen in love with the incredible simplicity and attention to detail on the performance side.</rss:description>

Super Street Magazine has been following the build inside Whitfield Racing’s garage and has been covering it in the pages of Super Street. The new August issue of Super Street Magazine covers the final build of the Chevy Aveo, and they did an amazing job with it. The story the whole way through the buildup has been really good, and this one ends great!

Make sure to run out to your local newsstand and pick up the latest issue of Super Street Magazine. Trust us, you will not be disappointed!

<rss:description>It was an exciting weekend of drifting and drag racing at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway this past weekend. The Vegas track provides a great venue for both drift and drag racing fans, with great views and easy access between the two tracks. Vegas weather in July tends to be brutal, but the weather gods were with us this weekend. A storm hovered nearby, providing strong winds and some clouds, which relieved us from the desert sun without actually raining on our parade.\nBryan Jimenez delivered a win for GM Racing and Chevy Cobalt, by powering through a full field of Pro Import competitors. It was great to see the line of cars trying to qualify for this class! Bryan started in the second qualifying spot and then picked-off each competitor for the final win. Congratulations to Bryan Jimenez and crew chief Juan Quintanilla.</rss:description>

Dai Yoshihara, piloting the Pontiac GTO Drift, battled to second place in Formula Drift for the weekend. Dai has been delivering consistent, error-free runs throughout this drift season and has come close to a podium finish several times. This time he gets it – well deserved.

The two Pontiac Solstice GXP competitors Rhys Millen (pictured right) and Ryan Tuerck put down some amazing runs over the course of the weekend. Ryan, in the new, production-based Mobil1 Solstice GXP, showed off his impressive driving skills by executing great drift runs but was not at the favor of the judges this weekend. Rhys Millen, whose driving skills are unquestionable, met with a mechanical issue that sent his Red Bull Solstice into the wall during the Great 8 round. Both drivers are sure to be back with a vengeance on Formula Drift Round 5 near Seattle Washington.

<rss:description>It was an exciting weekend at Belmont Park in New York this weekend as the GM Tuner Tour dropped in at its first Hot Import Nights “Night Shift” event for 2008. The Night Shift events bring the classic HIN atmosphere out under the stars and allow the show to be much larger than any indoor arena can be. This lets attendees participate in more activities and have a chance to check out cool exhibitions like freestyle motocross, drifting and street bike stunt shows.\nThe GM Tuner Tour brought an incredible showing of cars to this show including Kat Von D’s Pontiac Vibe and 50 Cent’s own Pontiac G8. Of course Jason Whitfield’s custom LSJ swapped Chevy Aveo and the new 2008 Cobalt SS Turbo were on site and, with the SS Turbo rolling on the streets now, there was tons of buzz around it the whole night including a few guys that had already picked one of these up! Adding a nice treat for the attendees, Neil Tjin, and his Tjin Edition Tour, had his custom creations on display which include a Chevy Cobalt and Pontiac Solstice. The attention to detail on Tjin’s concepts is amazing and as all the attendees found out, definitely worth the trip!</rss:description>

The Night Shift events add a
completely different element to the HIN scene and the GM Tuner Tour thrives in
the wide open spaces, allowing attendee’s unfettered access to all of the GM
Tuner Tour vehicles and the ability for enthusiasts to check out all the cars
features in detail. With all the extra space available the GM Tuner Tour was
able to break out the VIP Studio which had on display the gorgeous Pontiac
Solstice SD290. If you haven’t seen this Solstice in person you’re missing out,
as this custom one-seater roadster is a sight to behold. Enjoy the pics from

        <rss:link>http://tunersource.gmblogs.com/blog/archive/2008/06/23/ecotec-vip-owners-meet-at-mid-ohio-sports-course</rss:link>

<rss:description>Whenever you get a group of ECOtec enthusiasts together at a racetrack you know a great time is in store! This past weekend we hosted a GM VIP ECOtec Owners meet at the Mid Ohio Sports Course in the midst of a KONI Challenge race. We had such a great initial response for registration for this event and some owners came from as far away as Ontario, Canada and Tennessee to take part in the festivities so we didn’t want to disappoint.\nIt was a beautiful Sunday morning at the Mid Ohio Sports Course and once we had the owners parked in our VIP corral we got everyone together to go over all the great things we had in store for them. We started the day with Dwight Woodbridge, GM Racing Program Manager for Grand-Am KONI Challenge, guiding the owners throughout all the GM race teams pit areas and introducing the VIP guests to the drivers, engineers and mechanics at all the various teams. The owners had unbridled one-on-one access to all the staff and were free to ask all the questions they could think of. </rss:description>

The Georgian Bay Motorsports team had a special treat planned for the VIP guests and had set up a display with various carbon fiber parts they use on the track and had the stock parts next to them so the owners could see the weight difference between the two parts. They didn’t leave it at that though; the GBM team also performed a full pit stop for the owners, complete with a driver change, so the owners could see exactly what goes on during the change.

For an even closer look at the KONI Challenge Series Cobalt’s we headed on over to the Predator Auto Sport pit. At the Predator pit, the team lifted their Cobalt five feet into the air so the owners could see all the under workings of the race car, including the carbon fiber brake cooling ducts!

After all the excitement we headed back to the VIP area where everyone was treated to a catered lunch and even the Cobalt drivers stopped by to get some food and sit down with owners and talk to them. Inside of the VIP area we set up 4 Turbocharged SS vehicles, including a ‘09 Cobalt SS Coupe, with the new reconfigurable display (More on this display here soon - keep your eyes open for a post here on it.), along with 2 ‘09 Cobalt SS Sedans and an ‘08 HHR SS. We even left the keys in the cars so all the owners could rev them up and get a feeling of new LNF turbocharged engine!

We like to take care of our owners and give them the opportunity to experience things they never would have the chance to, so we organized a little something special for the most hardcore of our VIP guests. We rewarded the first 24 ECOtec owners that showed up with the opportunity to be official Grand Marshals and set up the starting grid for the race. Each owner got a row number and paraded onto the track to set up the grid. As the track officials started the race our VIP owners were up right there next to the KONI Challenge cars as they zoomed by ready to tackle the Mid Ohio Sports Course.

Overall it was a great day had by all and we can’t thank our owners enough for their enthusiasm throughout the entire day. We had an excellent response from all of our owners with over 42 cars in the group that turned out. We are definitely going to have more of these events. Keep tuned to www.GMTunerSource.com for more information on that.

Enjoy the pics!

<rss:description>For the second time in as many races, Rhys Millen won a spot on the Formula Drift podium. After a fierce drift battle with teammate Dai Yoshihara in the Pontiac GTO Drift, Rhys Millen and his Solstice GXP Drift grabbed third place at the Formula Drift event in Englishtown, New Jersey on June 14th. Dai Yoshihara, in repeat performance from the last event, finished fourth. Dai came into the Englishtown event qualified in the number one spot. Gardella Racing’s Ryan Tuerck in the Mobil1/Maxxis Tire Solstice GXP Drift qualified 10th and was defeated in round 1.</rss:description>

<rss:description>Budd’s Creek, MD- Jason Hunt and Charlie Schafer Industries are bringing their 200 mph, tube chassis, front-wheel drive, four-cylinder Ecotec powered Chevy Cobalt out to play in Top Sportsman this weekend.\nHunt, who is the reigning NOPI PRO FWD Champion and who currently sits third in points, is trying his hand at competing against rear-wheel-drive, eight-cylinder, door slammers before heading out to Denver, CO next week. Maryland International Raceway is Hunt and team owner, Schafer’s home track and they were really excited when the race could work into their schedule. </rss:description>

Hunt has never raced the Matco
Tools Chevy Cobalt on a handicap tree before, so qualifying will be a little
bit of a learning curve. They will also be competing with limited
electronics keeping the car legal for their next race.

“We will be happy to even qualify.
The field will be large and fast, hopefully we can fall somewhere
in the middle. I can’t wait to mix it up next to the rear wheel
drive cars. I think some of the other competitors will be surprised
at what 130 cubic inches can actually do.” informed Hunt.
The Matco Tools Pro Front Wheel
Drive Chevy Cobalt is a Roush built all-tube chassis race car, with the
big Mickey Thompson’s on the front, a Borg Warner Air Werks turbo, NGK

<rss:description>Being a racecar driver is one of the most physically and mentally challenging occupations out there. Being an actual racecar is to, but with a little less emphasis on the mental aspect. That’s what makes the team at Georgian Bay Motorsports and the 2008 Cobalt SS Turbo so impressive.\nIf you were to look at the current top standings in the Street Tuner Series, you’d wonder why the other teams even bother showing up. The Chevy Cobalt teams have been dominating this year with the new Turbo Cobalt SS.</rss:description>

<rss:description>The GM Tuner Tour is no stranger to all sorts of venues across the country. However, Columbus, OH is uncharted territory for Hot Import Nights, so we thought we’d show the fans in Columbus what HIN and the GM Tuner Tour was all about. The GM Tuner rig was set up at center stage so it stole the show and grabbed everyone’s attention in the hall. The GM Tuner Tour also brought out something special for the Columbus show in the form of a Kat Von D “tattooed” Pontiac Vibe. The custom Vibe is decked out with airbrushed artwork that is inspired from Kat Von D’s actual artwork. There was also a custom backdrop and kiosk setup by Kat Von D’s car that allowed attendee’s a chance to enter a custom inked 2009 Pontiac Vibe.</rss:description>

Of course, the Tour staples where on hand like the Pontiac

majority of attention as usual. If you haven’t gotten a chance to check out
these cars at a Tuner Tour stop near you, make sure you do because both of
these vehicles you have to see to believe. We know a lot of guys like the go-fast
cars more than show cars and the Columbus
show had you covered there with the new “terror of the streets” 2008 Chevy
Cobalt SS Turbo on display for fans to check out. These bad boys are at your
dealer now for you to see in person, but if you’d rather check them out in an
informal and comfortable setting and ask some questions to guys that actually know
the guts of the car, come by any of the GM Tuner Tour events and ask away!

<rss:description>An LSJ in an Aveo? Yeah, you read right. Jason Whitfield builds some of the cleanest go fast machines you’ll ever see and was in the mood to build the ultimate sleeper. He loves the 2.0L LSJ ECOtec engine and as he looked around the GM stable he saw the Aveo and his mind was set. Being one of the smallest cars on the road no one would ever expect an Aveo to blow their doors off but that is exactly what this car will do. Whitfield goes over his whole build and how he built up his monster Aveo in the June 2008 Issue of Super Street that is on newsstands now. Many of you are familiar with Jason Whitfield from his Candy Red Whitfield Racing Cobalt Drag Car. That same engineering and technology was brought over to this Aveo project.\nThe car is on the GM Tuner Tour right now, which travels the nation to some of the top shows across the country. If you make it out to one of the shows, be sure to drop by and check the Aveo out in person. You will be IMPRESSED! The new issue of Super Street is out on newsstands now, so check it out. The article is great! Keep your eyes peeled for the upcoming issues of SS as this buildup will be in the next few issues. Stay tuned here for more info. Check it out and start dreaming about what you would do with your own 250hp Aveo.</rss:description>

Competitors cut good lights and excel at race strategy.
